I've been reading Dharma Bums in relation to my dissertation topic - to further investigate the philosophy behind climbing. The contrast between the city and mountainous environment painted within the book can be used in the dissertation. This differential will be played upon in the dissertation and relates to the concept of philosophical posthumanism - I think there's a link to be made. I'm currently thinking of the dissertation as being laid out in a similar way to climbing guide books - the philosophy and key concepts behind climbing to be a lens - a way of looking at the design and navigation of/through spaces as a posthuman?? Am not entirely sure yet how to do this or if it will work. The notation of performance and movement will also be a vital aspect of this - using then, Stan Allen's essay on notation - to play on this idea - how space space is navigated as a posthuman - how space is performed and/or experienced by climbers?
